Academics
Saint Edward-Epiphany School stands as a hallmark of Catholic education in the Diocese of Richmond. For nearly 50 years, SEES has upheld academic excellence, Christian values, community outreach, and positive discipline. SEES is proud of the recognition received at the Diocesan level Concilium Awards, as well as honors bestowed by nationally recognized foundations. This academic excellence is evident by our rich tradition and the thousands of successful graduates; many who continue to support the school and its mission.

Curriculum Overview

Saint Edward-Epiphany School follows the Diocese of Richmond Consensus Curriculum for each subject area. Specific guidelines are present for each subject taught at the elementary level. Diocesan directives for guidelines, are broad based and independent and do not correspond with public school SOL’s. A few areas where SEES continues to meet the special needs of students include: advanced academic programs in Math and Spanish, an extended Learning Disabilities (LD) Resource Program through fifth grade, a one-of-a-kind, “Transitional First Grade” (T-1), a “President’s Fitness Challenge Program” for physical fitness education, junior high health programs, a variety of team sports and student athletic opportunities, special interest student clubs, scouting and after school enrichment, such as the award-winning, “Kaleidoscope” program.
Testing
Each spring, the Diocese of Richmond mandates that all students in Grades 1, 3, 5 and 7 take the Diocesan standardized test, “Terra Nova.” Each school is given the option to test the students in every grade. St. Edward-Epiphany School has chosen this option in order to provide a
year-to-year comparison of how students are performing individually, as well as to give students yearly practice in

standardized test-taking. The results of the Terra Nova are typically provided to parents in late May, with the copy of their child's individual report. Theses results are also shared with the teaching staff, who see how well their students performed, as compared with skills exhibited in the classroom. In the fall of the following year, the Diocese publishes the
average scores for all the Catholic schools in the Diocese, and we publish SEES scores alongside the Diocesan scores. We are proud to note that many of our student scores for individual grades are well above the average Diocesan scores.
