SEES Dedicates New Athletic Field

SEES Dedicates New Athletic Field

The new St. Edward-Epiphany Catholic School athletic field was dedicated on October 20, 2012, on the joint occasion of the Sixth Annual Eagle 5K Challenge and the School’s Fall Festival. Principal Emily Elliott announced that the field will be named Richards Field, in honor of former principal Georgette Richards. The field is a monument to the dedication, love, and outstanding service that Ms. Richards exemplified in her 26 years’ association with SEES.

Students and faculty were among the crowd of race participants and festival attendees who gathered with Ms. Richards in The Grove picnic area as Father Don Lemay, pastor of St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, ended the dedication ceremony with a blessing.

The construction of the natural grass field is proceeding on schedule. Grading work, seeding, installation of the track and irrigation system are completed, and fertilizing has begun. We are hopeful that the field will be ready for Spring activities. Thanks to the SEES community for your continued support of the project!

St. Edward-Epiphany Named as 2012 National Blue Ribbon School

St. Edward-Epiphany Named as 2012 National Blue Ribbon School
We are proud to announce the wonderful news that St. Edward-Epiphany Catholic School has been recognized by the U. S. Department of Education as a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School. The announcement was made on September 7, 2012 by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. SEES is one of nine Virginia public and private schools awarded Blue Ribbon status this year.

St. Edward-Epiphany met and exceeded the Blue Ribbon School of Excellence eligibility guidelines, in part due to its students' continued high performing scores as measured by state assessments in both reading (English language arts) and mathematics. Principal Emily Elliott made the announcement to the students, faculty and staff, commending them on their achievement. "This is a fantastic recognition for all of the great things that have happened at St. Edward-Epiphany Catholic School over the past fifty years. Our students, teachers, parents and staff are very deserving of this honor."

All 269 National Blue Ribbon schools were recognized at a formal ceremony in Washington, D. C. on November 12th, 2012. Attending from St. Edward-Epiphany School were Fourth Grade Teacher Mrs. Vicki Long, former Principal Georgette Richards, and current Principal Emily Elliott (pictured left to right with National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Director Aba Kumi, above).

Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for New Athletic Field

To the delight of parents, students and faculty alike, St. Edward-Epiphany Catholic School held an official Groundbreaking Ceremony on Thursday, May 31, 2012, to launch its future “Field of Dreams.” After many years of planning and preparation, the athletic field that borders Woodmont Drive and Jason Road in Chesterfield County will undergo its first phase of significant renovations in the coming months. Currently used for physical education, soccer and baseball, the field will receive a surface upgrade and the School will install an irrigation system and create a new walking path. This first phase of “Field” construction will begin in late June 2012 and will be completed by the end of August 2012. The School will create the “Field of Dreams” through its fundraising efforts, many of which were coordinated by the St. Edward-Epiphany Home and School Association (HSA).

During the annual Family Picnic on May 31, the “Field of Dreams” Groundbreaking Ceremony took place with Rev. Don Lemay of St. Edward Church, future Principal Emily Elliott, engineer Reed Meriwether, Facilities Chair Matt Markee, Principal Georgette Richards, and School Board Chair Virginia Marchetti.

“Next school year, we look forward to welcoming all students, parents, teachers, St. Edward the Confessor parishioners, our neighborhood families, and future generations who will come to our ‘Field of Dreams’ to play,” declared Marchetti.

Welcome to Our New Principal, Emily Elliott!

St. Edward-Epiphany Catholic School welcomes Ms. Emily Elliott as our new principal. Elliott, formerly a fifth grade teacher at SEES, replaced principal Georgette Richards, who retired at the conclusion of the 2011-2012 school year.

Elliott was selected from more than 16 applicants from across the nation. A Midlothian resident, Elliott joined the St. Edward-Epiphany faculty in 2010, where she taught fifth grade language arts, reading, and social studies.

Elliott was born in California, completed high school in San Diego, and graduated from California State University-Fresno with a degree in Business Administration. She furthered her education at National University in La Jolla, Calif., where she earned an MBA with an emphasis in Marketing. After working as a retail manager for several years and a white-water river guide in the summers, Elliott moved to Los Angeles. There, she worked in advertising, but quickly learned that she longed to get back into the classroom, and began teaching in the Los Angeles Unified School District at Canterbury Elementary School.

In 2006, Ms. Elliott completed her second Master’s degree, in American Studies, at Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif. She moved to Virginia that same year, and started her own business devoted to helping new families transition into parenthood.

Elliott is married to Brad Elliott, who is also a teacher, and has three children—two of whom proudly attend St. Edward-Epiphany.
